Discover Aboriginal Experiences (DAE), the collective of leading Aboriginal-guided tourism experiences across Australia, has launched a new Story Bank. This is a comprehensive editorial resource connecting journalists with Indigenous storytellers, cultural insights, thematic journeys, story ideas and bookable Aboriginal-led experiences.
Developed as a journalist's go-to reference, the Story Bank is a central platform for discovering editorial angles and exploring Aboriginal-led tourism experiences.
“We are delighted to provide this resource to our media partners. We're constantly looking for new and innovative ways to spotlight our exceptional members and inspire story ideas and travel itineraries around Australia that feature authentic Indigenous experiences and interactions.” says Nicole Mitchell, Executive Officer of Discover Aboriginal Experiences (DAE).
The Story Bank features a wide range of editorial content designed to support feature writing and travel inspiration. Key updates include revamped 'Thematic Journeys', now linking directly to related stories and storytellers for each theme. Uncover the unexpected diversity of Aboriginal-led experiences with our curated thematic journeys that offer a deep dive into nine distinct pillars, including Coastal & Aquatic, Active Adventures, Culinary Experiences and Art & Museums.
A new 'What's Hot' section highlights emerging themes and trends including DAE's impact in 2026: Culture Explained, Environment, Family travel, Health and Wellness, Luxury, Listicles, Music, Dance and Festivals, Reconciliation, Sustainability and Tourism Trends. Each offers suggested feature titles, story leads, interview opportunities and video/image galleries
Media will be able to learn about new member experiences across the collective. Six new storytellers share Indigenous perspectives and personal insights from guides and cultural leaders.
Looking for a fresh hook relating to Australia? Our Story Ideas section offers close to 100 short-form story ideas that bring authentic Indigenous voices to the forefront - from seeing underwater through Aboriginal eyes and the Indigenous side of Sydney, to curated angles for foodies, adventurers, and wellness seekers. These pieces provide the depth and flavour required for high-impact travel journalism.
Review the Cultural Insights section to assist in sharing culture with absolute confidence. This series of more than 25 short stories provides factual, engaging detail about Indigenous Country, community and culture. From the significance of women's business and sacred sites to deep dives into the Southern Cross, boomerangs and didgeridoos, Australian wildlife and produce - we've done the research so you can provide authentic, respectful information every time.
The Story Bank's Spotlight Series is dedicated to feature-length storytelling, such as demonstrating the growth and impact of Indigenous tourism enterprises across Australia.
Experience the essence of each business through our curated Product Features. Beyond the logistics, we dive into what makes each experience truly unique, using personal insights from our guides to bring the story to life.
We recommend starting with our comprehensive Contents Page, to grasp the full scale of narratives available. To support seamless integration into your features, the entire Story Bank is available in an editable format for easy reference. Each story lead is paired with a high-resolution suite of complimentary images and broadcast-quality video, providing everything you need to file a visually stunning, culturally rich story.
DAE has also developed new Pitch Packs, organised around key themes for media to help journalists quickly identify feature angles and develop stories around Aboriginal tourism experiences. Themes include Accessibility in Aboriginal Tourism; Astrotourism with an Aboriginal Guide; Exploring Australia's Movie Backdrops with an Aboriginal Guide; Family-Friendly Aboriginal Experiences; Nature and Wildlife; Sustainable Tourism; Wild Swimming with an Aboriginal Guide and Women in Aboriginal Tourism and more.
Together, the Story Bank and Pitch Packs provide journalists with a comprehensive resource for developing stories about Aboriginal cultures, travel experiences and the people behind Indigenous tourism across Australia.
All resources can be accessed from the dedicated trade and media portal of the Discover Aboriginal Experiences website. The What's New section of the site also includes a range of new video assets, including a Discover Aboriginal Experiences updated showreel, an 'About DAE' video and new Storyteller videos.
The Discover Aboriginal Experiences collective brings together more than 50 Aboriginal-guided tourism businesses offering more than 200 bookable experiences across Australia. The collective is part of Tourism Australia's Signature Experiences of Australia program and showcases the diversity and depth of Aboriginal tourism through guided experiences led by Traditional Owners and cultural Custodians.
