After an eight-year absence, archaeology tours specialist Andante Travels is returning to the fascinating central Asian country of Kazakhstan, which is brimming with historical and cultural sites just waiting to be explored.
The country, the ninth largest in the world, is steeped in history and an archaeological paradise. The new 13-day tour combines the cities and nomadic empires of the past, with the majestic landscape of high mountains, green valleys and remote underground mosques.
The tour begins in Almaty and ends in the modern capital of Astana, taking a deep dive into a host of key sites and attractions along the way. Highlights include: the blue tiled wonder of the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi; viewing the thousands of petroglyphs decorating the rocks at Tamgaly from the Bronze and Iron Ages and exploring the ancient city of Sauran, a former hub of the Silk Road whose ruins now stands alone amidst the Kazakh Steppe.
What makes a holiday with Andante Travels stand out from the crowd is its Expert Guide Lecturers who are leading voices in the world of archaeology and escort guests through the sites, sharing their knowledge and answering any questions to satisfy guests' curiosity.
Guests joining the Kazakhstan tour will be accompanied by Dr Peter J Brown, an archaeologist specialising in the medieval world across Europe and Eurasia. Peter has worked on, and directed, a wide variety of archaeological field projects across the Middle East, Central Asia and China, leaving him well placed to offer a fascinating insight into the locations visited on the tour.
The Kazakhstan tour departs on 27 September 2025 and costs £4,695 per person includes return flights from London into Almaty and out of Astana, 11-nights' accommodation (two sharing) during the tour including most meals, coach transfers throughout, services of expert guide and tour manager, all entrance fees, gratuities and taxes.

No-one does archaeology quite like Andante Travels, an award-winning specialist in expert-led tours to more than 120 destinations.
Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, the company has a reputation for offering small group trips (with a maximum of 18 people), accompanied by both an expert and tour guide, to allow for easy access to sites and to ensure guests enjoy quality time with their lecturer.
Through their long-established relationships with local custodians and their Guide Lecturers, who are leading voices in the world of archaeology, Andante's tours include spontaneous encounters that are simply not possible with a larger tour group. Special access to working archaeological sites, opportunities to handle artefacts and private museum tours are just a few of the ways in which the company provides unique and memorable encounters to its customers.
Tours represent excellent value for money with everything included from return flights to entry fees, tips and more often than not, wine with dinner.
