SeaLink South East Queensland is thrilled to announce the upcoming launch of its cutting-edge vehicle ferry set to commence operations servicing the Southern Moreton Bay Islands community in February 2025.

Meeting the needs of a growing community

As the Southern Moreton Bay Islands experience rapid population growth, this new vessel greatly increases the current vehicle ferry capacity and offers contemporary technology, comfort and convenience. This expansion ensures reliable and seamless connections for both residents and businesses, catering to the evolving demands of the region.

Ben Renwick, General Manager for SeaLink South East Queensland, stated, "The introduction of our newest ferry reinforces our long-term commitment to the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, ensuring a reliable and efficient transport service that meets the needs of the growing community. This vessel is designed to enhance safety, accessibility, and convenience for all passengers."

Designed for Safety, Accessibility, and Comfort

The new vessel boasts a range of features designed with passenger comfort front of mind:

  • Passenger amenities: An air-conditioned lounge and sun deck accommodating 199 passengers and crew, and on-board café facilities ensure a comfortable and enjoyable journey.
  • Safety innovations: Equipped with a first-of-its-kind electric vehicle spray rail, multiple fire pumps, a foam monitor for open vehicle deck fires, a deluge system beneath the café deck, and advanced fire suppression tools, setting new safety standards.
  • Accessibility: A chair lift for wheelchair access from the vehicle deck to the passenger lounge and a fully accessible toilet reflects SeaLink's dedication to inclusive travel.

Mr Renwick continued, "The arrival of this new vehicle ferry represents a major step forward in improving connectivity for residents, businesses, and visitors. With increased capacity, reduced wait times, and a more comfortable travel experience, this new ferry will make journeys across the bay a smoother and more enjoyable experience."

Donna Gauci, CEO of SeaLink Marine & Tourism, added, “Our ongoing commitment to investing in modern marine infrastructure for the communities we serve across Australia is exemplified by this new vehicle ferry. From regional island connections to major transport routes, we continue to deliver safe, reliable, and innovative ferry services that enhance connectivity and support local economies.”

A next-generation ferry service

The vessel, designed by Sea Transport and built by Harwood Marine in Yamba, NSW, measures 44.9 metres in length and 16.5 metres in breadth. Powered by four Scania D13 engines, it can accommodate 199 passengers plus crew, with capacity for approximately 38-40 standard cars, two truck lanes, and four car lanes, all without height restrictions for trucks.

With the new ferry launch, SeaLink continues to strengthen its connection to the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, delivering a service that not only meets the needs of today but also supports the region's future growth.
